Coach Lorene Dabney, SDSU graduate, earned a bachelor's degree in physical education in 1983. Additionally, she earned a master's degree in 2001 from National University. Coach Dabney has been an educator for over 30 years, and PE teacher at Serra High School since 2003.
After many years of success as a Cheer Advisor, Coach Dabney was asked to take over the tennis program at Serra High School in 2005, serving as coach to both girls and boys tennis. This seemed the perfect fit as Coach Dabney, having played tennis herself since junior high, had a love and passion for coaching, her students, & the game of tennis.
Coach Dabney has had much success at Serra High School as head tennis coach. In 2006, the girls team was Eastern League Champions for the first time in the history of Serra High. The tennis program has grown leaps and bounds since Coach Dabney took the helm. Additionally, both the girls and boys teams have never finished less than 3rd place in the Eastern League for the last 11 years. For the last 9 years, the boys team has reached CIF playoffs. In 2011 & 2014, the boys team captured the Eastern League Championship title and the girls team captured the Eastern League Championship title again in 2014 . Coach Dabney's mantra of, "Serra Tennis: More than a team, we're a family", rings true on the Serra courts. Her focus is helping her students reach their goals and succeeding, both on and off the court.
